Shower and Bathroom Regrouting in Brisbane

Shower regrouting refers to removing and replacing the grout between your tiles. This helps to restore a watertight seal without removing the tiles. At EZ Shower Repair & Tiling, our service covers loose, cracked or broken tiles that require repair or replacement.

Our prices are competitive, and most standard showers are completed in one visit. We offer our professional service to customers in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.

Signs Your Shower Needs Regrouting

If you notice any of the following, it might be time for you to get your shower regrouted.

  • Cracked or powdering grout
  • Mould regularly returns after cleaning
  • Staining that will not scrub out
  • Water pooling outside the shower
  • Drummy-sounding or loose tiles
  • Grout receded below the tile face

A good way to tell if you need your shower is leaking is to run a coin along the grout line. If it powders, then the grout has failed and needs replacing, rather than cleaning.

How Much Does Shower Regrouting Cost in Brisbane?

The cost of shower regrouting in Brisbane varies depending on the size and condition of the shower, the type of tiles and grout, and the extent of work required.

Some of the main factors that can affect the cost include:

    • Size of your shower
    • Size and layout of your tiles
    • Condition of the existing grout
    • Accessibility of the work area
    • Whether walls, floors or both require regrouting
    • Whether additional sealing or tile repairs are required
    • Condition of the waterproofing membrane

For example, mosaic and smaller-format tiles generally require more labour due to the greater number of grout joints. Similarly, damaged tiles, deteriorated grout or underlying waterproofing issues may require additional repair work before the shower can be properly restored.

Where the existing tiles and waterproofing remain in good condition, regrouting can also be a more cost-effective option than retiling or completing a full bathroom renovation, while avoiding the additional demolition and downtime involved.

For more information on the costs associated with repairing shower issues, see our guide to leaking shower repair costs in Brisbane.

Before starting any work, we’ll assess your shower and provide a fixed-price quote based on the work required.

Will Regrouting Fix a Leaking Shower?

Professional regrouting can be effective in fixing leaking showers, particularly when water is passing through cracked grout or perished silicone above a sound waterproofing membrane. By removing the failed material, they can allow fresh grout and silicone to bond properly.

That said, regrouting will not fix a failed membrane. Therefore, while applying new shower grout over damaged waterproofing may hide the problem temporarily, it won’t stop the leak from returning and potentially causing a lot more water damage.

This is why we offer a complete free thermal imaging leak detection check before quoting. The results help to determine whether you need regrouting or more extensive leaking shower repairs.

    Our Regrouting Process

Most standard showers are completed in a single visit and can be used after a 24-hour curing period. Here’s the process we follow:

    1.

We perform a free thermal imaging leak check before quoting. This helps us to find hidden moisture and assess the membrane without unnecessarily removing the tiles.

    2.

You receive a final fixed-price quote. This details the required grout repair, tile replacement, sealing and silicone work.

    3.

Spot regrouting fails when fresh grout cannot bond properly to deteriorated material. That’s why we remove old grout from wall to wall using a precision saw.

    4.

Where required, we repair the waterproofing. We do this by injecting a liquid membrane beneath the floor tiles, which addresses the damage without beginning a full renovation.

    5.

We apply epoxy grout at critical joints and junctions. This creates a strong, water-resistant finish suited to demanding shower conditions.

    6.

We reseal the shower and allow 24 hours for curing. We also provide you with a five-year written warranty for our completed shower regrouting service.

    F.A.Q.

We’re here to help and answer any questions you might have.

Replacing old grout gives you an opportunity to select a different colour. Depending on your choice, you may be able to better complement the tiles, disguise everyday marks or create stronger contrast across the shower walls and floor.

It can be difficult to source exact matches for discontinued tiles, but we will try our best!

We will inspect the colour, dimensions, finish, and pattern of your tiles, then look for the closest alternative we can find, or discuss replacing the tiles altogether.

While regrouting removes mould-affected grout, it cannot guarantee that the mould will never return. The best way to ensure this is to introduce proper ventilation, clean your tiles regularly and keep an eye out for shower leaks.

Re grouting can be a messy job as it creates some dust and debris as the old material is removed. Our team uses professional equipment and quality workmanship to keep mess to a minimum. They also thoroughly clean your bathroom once they have finished the job.
